Clerks who do not meet continuing education requirements and/or fail to submit a renewal application with required documentation within an academic year will be placed on probationary status for the following academic year. TMCEC will notify the clerk of this status in writing.
While on probation, clerks must complete both:
- The standard annual continuing education requirement for their certification level, and
- Any deficient hours from the previous academic year.
Example: If a Level II clerk completed only 6 of the required 12 hours last year, he or she must complete 6 make-up hours plus 12 hours for the current year, totaling 18 hours during the probation year.
Virtual On-Demand Limit:
Clerks may complete no more than 8 hours through approved virtual on-demand courses in a single year.
Note: Live virtual events (such as TMCEC Virtual Clinics or Virtual Regional Seminars) are considered live hours.
All required hours must be completed within the probationary academic year to maintain certification.
Inactive Status
IFailure to meet continuing education requirements for two consecutive academic years will result in:
- Level I and Level II: Certification becomes invalid. The clerk must reapply at Level I and retake the required exams.
- Level III: Certification status becomes inactive. To reinstate certification, the clerk must complete 40 hours of continuing education, including at least 6 hours earned at a TMCEC Legislative Update.
