Education Requirements


Level I

Perfected certification applications must be filed with the TMCEC Program Coordinator within 3 years and must include the following:   

1. proof of a passing score on the Level I exam,

2. completion of 40 hours of approved continuing  education (CEU)  sponsored by TMCEC, TCCA (state or local chapter), TMCA, or an alternate provider approved by the TCCA Education Committee; or a combination thereof. Online CEUs can not exceed 8 hours therefore a minimum of 32 hours must be completed in person.  

Level I Application


Level II 

Perfected certification applications must be filed with the TMCEC Program Coordinator within 3 years and must include the following:   

1. proof of a passing score on the 3 part Level II exam;

2. proof of Level I certification in good standing;

3. completion of 40 hours of approved continuing  education units (CEU)  sponsored by TMCEC, TCCA (state or local chapter), TMCA, or an alternate provider approved by the TCCA Education Committee; or a combination thereof. Online CEUs can not exceed 8 hours therefore a minimum of 32 hours must be completed in person.  

Continuing education hours (CEUs) expire on the 3rd anniversary of the certificate date.  CEUs can be reused when applying for Level II certification if the hours have not expired.

  • Texas Court Clerk Association (TCCA) -local chapters and annual conferences
  • Texas Municipal Courts Association (TMCA)
  • Texas Municipal Courts Education Center (TMCEC)
  • Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) Approved Training for Court Interpreters
  • TMCEC Live or Archived Webinars (up to 8 hours)
Approval upon review of agenda: 
These providers must submit an agenda to the TCCA Education Committee for the number of hours approved based on content.
