The Laws of Recusal and Disqualification: An Encore and Final Presentation
January 29, 2013 (Tuesday) from 10:00 – 3:00 ▪ TMCEC office in Austin
This clinic offers 4.0 hours of judicial education, clerk certification, and MCLE credit (including 3.0 hours ethics).
Registration is just $20 per participant, and includes lunch! It is open to judges, clerks, court administrators, and prosecutors.
Join Ryan Turner as he discusses the laws, passed by the 2011 Legislature, and codified in Subchapter A-1 of Chapter 29 of the Government Code. These laws provide a comprehensive series of procedures to be used in any kind of criminal or civil case in which a municipal court has jurisdiction and the judge has been asked to or must recuse or disqualify him or herself. An important topic for all judges, court administrators, and prosecutors to know, this is the last Opportunity to attend this clinic specifically on the laws of recusal and disqualification.

Operation Compliance: Ensuring Appearance and Enforcing Judgments

Adventures in Bond Forfeitures

Join the Honorable Marian Moseley, Presiding Judge, and Rosie Caballero, Court Administrator, of the Coppell Municipal Court as they navigate the world of bond forfeitures. Areas covered will include an overview of bonds, criminal conditional pleas, and civil bond forfeitures. This topic is important for prosecutors, warrant officers, clerks, and judges, all of whom share the goal of returning the defendant to custody and allowing criminal prosecution to continue. All Texas cities can appreciate the resulting income as well. This in-depth clinic will be an adventure you don’t want to miss!

The Magistrate's Role in Traffic Safety
July 9, 2013 (Tuesday) from 8:30 – 3:00 ▪ Omni Southpark Hotel in Austin
This clinic – different from the rest – offers 5.5 hours of judicial education and up to 5.0 hours of MCLE credit (including some ethics credit). Note: this clinic is reserved for municipal judges and city magistrates. Registration is still just $20 per judge, but, as an added bonus, will include one night stay in a hotel, breakfast, and lunch! Registration is limited to 75 participants.
This seminar will offer an in-depth discussion of magistrate duties, including Article 15.17 warnings, the setting and revocation of bond, and the treatment of offenders through consular notifications and the use of interpreters. Structured around a hypothetical arrest of a DWI suspect, participants will learn about blood draw warrants, bond conditions on DWI cases, and auto ignition interlock devices. Finally, participants will see first-hand a video magistration and discuss the laws behind using electronic broadcast systems.
